Family photographs,
at home in Vermont.

Parents with their newborn and dog in their nursery during an at-home family session

I think people sometimes feel their house has to look a certain way before they can have family photos taken there. It really doesn’t. I’m much more interested in how you spend time together than whether the living room is perfectly tidy.

The chair where you feed your baby, the books you keep reading, the dog who wants to be part of everything—those things give the photos context. They tell me something about your family.

What an at-home session can look like

We might start with everyone sitting together, or reading a book, or spending a few minutes in the baby’s room. I’ll give you a little direction when you need it. You don’t have to keep finding something to do, and I don’t expect your children to perform for me.

I’m looking for a mix: a scene that shows the room, a closer photo of you together, and a few details. I don’t want your gallery to feel like portrait after portrait. I want you to see a little of what life felt like at this point.

Planning family photos in Northern Vermont

I’m based in Fairfax and photograph families around Northern Vermont, including the Burlington and St. Albans areas. For an indoor session, we’ll talk about the rooms you use most and when they get good natural light. We can keep the plan simple.

And if your child needs to be held the whole time, that’s okay. If the dog keeps coming over, we can work with that too. Those are often the things you’ll remember about this season.

A documentary approach, with some help

Documentary family photography doesn’t mean I leave you wondering what to do. I’ll help you get comfortable, suggest something familiar, and look for a good angle. Then I try to leave enough room for you to be yourselves.

That balance is what interests me: real family life, photographed thoughtfully.

You can see more of my at-home photographs, look at session pricing, or send a quick family-session inquiry. Once you’ve booked, I’ll send the full packet so we can plan the rest together.
